eVisitor (subclass 651)


An eVisitor is an electronically stored authority for people who want to travel to Australia for a short period of time. To apply for an eVisitor visa you must hold a passport from an eligible country and must be outside Australia when you lodge your application.

When you are granted an eVisitor visa you do not need to visit an immigration office and you will not receive a stamp or label in your passport. You will be given a confirmation for your records which can be accessed by airlines, travel agents and Australian border agents.

 

Your eVisitor lets you:

  • enter Australia for up to three months during each visit during the 12 months from the date the eVisitor is granted
  • have a holiday or visit family and friends in Australia
  • study in Australia for up to three months in some circumstances
  • engage in business visitor activities while in Australia provided you
  • do not work for or provide services to, a business or organisation
  • do not sell goods or services to the public

 

 

Electronic Travel Authority (subclass 601)


An ETA is an electronically stored authority for a person who wants to travel to Australia for business purposes. To apply for the ETA visa you must hold a passport from an eligible country. If you are eligible for an ETA, you can travel to Australia to carry out a ‘business visitor activity’, which includes:

  • making a general business or employment enquiry
  • investigating, negotiating, entering into, or reviewing a business contract
  • an activity carried out as part of a government visit
  • participating in a conference, trade fair or seminar, so long as you are not being paid for your participation.

 

How to apply for an ETA

You must lodge your visa application outside Australia, and demonstrate that you satisfy
prescribed criteria, including that you:

1. genuinely intend to stay in Australia temporarily to engage in a business visitor activity or as a tourist.
2. meet health and character requirements.

 

 

Business Visitor visa (subclass 600)


The Business Visitor stream of a subclass 600 visitor visa is for a businessman looking to visit Australia to engage in a ‘business visitor activity’, which includes:

  • making a general business or employment enquiry
  • investigating, negotiating, or reviewing a business contract
  • A business activity carried out as part of a government visit
  • participating in a conference, trade fair or seminar, as long as you are not being paid for your participation.

 

A Subclass 600 (Business Visitor) Visa allows you to:

  • enter and stay in Australia for up to  three months at a time
  • carry out a business visitor activity in Australia
  • study or train for up to three months.

If a family member wishes to travel to Australia with you, they must lodge a separate visa application.

 

How to apply for a Subclass 600 (Business Visitor) Visa

You must apply for a Subclass 600 (Business Visitor) Visa if you are outside Australia, and  satisfy the prescribed criteria, including:

  • your activities will not have adverse consequences for the employment or training of Australian citizens or permanent residents
  • you intend to engage in a business visitor activity in Australia. For example, you should be prepared to show that you have a business background
  • you will not be working or selling goods or services to the public
  • you have the means to support yourself during your stay
  • you genuinely intend to stay in Australia temporarily
  • you meet health and character requirements.
